I've just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I've honestly really enjoyed the book. I might become a Harry/Dumbledore shipper because of it. It almost seemed canon at some points in the book. I'm sure some Harry/Draco shippers will also be happy, the book offers so many possibilities for fanfic.

While I do want to spend some time making different comments on the book that will be done some other time because I've just finished it and right now I can only think about the ending.

That said I want to take some time to make my own Snape theory. While I honestly wouldn't mind for him to have been a Death Eater all along there seems to be something wrong with this. At first I thought he really was evil but then I re-read the scene and I'm not so sure anymore. We know that Snape promised Narcissa that he would protect Draco (even if Snape is a "good" guy that doesn't mean he cannot care for his old friends or that he must dislike Slytherins). Dumbledore also stated that he had asked Snape to protect Draco.

It's also easy to see that Dumbledore believes that there is good in everyone and that he's ready to do almost anything to protect his students. His reaction when Harry accused him of leaving Hogwarts defenseless show this fact clearly. When Dumbledore talk to Severus at the end of the book, he only said "please" he didn't specify anything. Is it possible that Dumbledore was asking Snape to kill him? Maybe Dumbledore knew that Snape had made the unbreakable vow and didn't want Snape to suffer because of him. Maybe Dumbledore wanted to save one of his students. All I'm saying is that Dumbledore never asked Snape not to kill him, he only said the word please.

There is another element to that scene, Snape's look of rage. This is mentioned while and after Snape kills Dumbledore. It's also mentioned later when Harry accuses Snape of being a coward. Did Snape have that look because he hated Dumbledore of because he hated what Dumbledore was asking him to do? Its been mentioned in earlier books that Snape is very loyal to Dumbledore. Snape could have been mad at Harry because Harry was accusing him without knowing the full story. If Snape had just kill Dumbledore under the headmaster's order, was mad at himself for following those orders and at Dumbledore for giving them, it's understandable that he will have no patience for Harry's accusations.

I believe that there is more to Snape's character then we know. After all, he was the Half-Blood Prince. Only the last book will tell us on which side he really his. Finally, we are still missing on crucial bit of information about Snape: What he did or said to gain Dumbledore's trust. If Dumbledore had any doubts that Snape was still working for Voldemort, he would have never let him go near his students.

I honestly can't wait to read all the theories on this subject and I can't wait for the last book to come out.
